Modelling Applications

A UV Mapping and 3d file format conversion application which exports to Leadwerks Game Model Format.


gmax is a free modeling program from Discreet.


Creating landscapes - can be used for creating Skyboxes.


A Free 3D editor supporting almost everything there is to support.

Texture Tools

Converts heightmap TGA images to DOT3 normal maps.


A tool for compressing texture and creating mip-map levels. Allows comparison between original and compressed textures, and also allows batch processing.


ATI CubeMapGen is a tool for importing, filtering, visualizing, and exporting cubemaps.


Includes a Normal Map filter and .DDS saving/loading functions.


A set of command-line tools for processing .dds compressed textures. GPU accelerated, making it faster than the above photoshop plugins.


Allows you to view .dds files in Thumbnail view in Windows Explorer.


A simple DDS viewer.


Tool for editing .TGA alpha channels.


A tool for generating DOT3 Bump Maps (Normal Maps) from the diffuse texture. 2 versions available - a free command line and a $20 GUI version.


Similar tool to Shadermap for creating Normal Maps, except has no free version and is $100.


L3DTIC is an image converter by Luuk van Venrooij that converts JPEG or bitmap images to DirectDraw Surface images (.dds),
Truevision Advanced Raster Graphics Adapter images (.tga) or Portable Network Graphics (.png).

Terrain tools

L3DT is a Windows application for generating artificial terrain maps and textures.
It is primarily intended for game developers seeking to make large high-quality 3D worlds
(eg. for RTSs, MMORPGs, etc), as well as for digital artists who have designs for their landscapes and need a program to build them.


Terragen is a scenery generator, created with the goal of generating photorealistic landscape images and animations.
It is available for Windows and the Mac OS. At this stage in its development, Terragen is free for personal, noncommercial use.
