Slight Rebrand

Leadwerks Game Engine: Indie Edition on Steam is now just "Leadwerks Game Engine".

Leadwerks Game Engine: Standard Edition on Steam is now "Leadwerks Game Engine: Professional Edition".

When I first put Leadwerks on Steam, it was just an experiment. Separating out the Lua version was something I had not done before. In fact originally, Leadwerks was a C++ library only, and Lua support was added later. After the last two years on Steam, it makes sense to consider the Lua version our main product, and the C++ add-on is more of a high-end advanced option.

Makes sense to me. I avoided LE for a while as I thoight indie edition was only a stripped down version of the real thing. Much better to think of the C++ ability as an addon.

Nice. I use both C++ and Lua hand in-hand, but I always saw LE to be more lua focused, and the main product as you don't really need the C++ portions.

I remembered when in the project manager, you had to choose if you wanted a C++ project or a Lua one, and it was very confusing. Glad things cleared up over the years.

Inn most engines the "pro" version" means a lot more advanced features than the indie version. I can't see that happening here as the bias is heavily towards lua.

Good luck though.

I agree with cassius. I like the rename of Indie Edition, but why not call the Professional Edition something like Leadwerks Game Engine: C++ Addon. With other pro editions for other software, professional usually includes extra support, more features, sometimes even a different license. Just my 2 cents

In a way it does open up the doors for more advanced features, but I agree it's hard to figure out how to make that clear in a few words.

Well, I think it worked. :)

Also, I have decided that only the uber professional version will get dynamically tessellated global hair physics.

If you see the topics in the steam discussion then it makes sense to rename the indie edition to just 'leadwerks engine'. That solves a lot of confusion.

I would also communicate this discission via email. The more people using the proper term, the better.
