Vegetation nation

I got my hands on the GDC showcase scene by Michael Betke, and it's much more beautiful than I thought. I used this scene to rewrite and test the vegetation rendering code. Collision isn't working yet, but it's built into the routine. The results speak for themselves.

Fortunately, Pure3D is soon offering a set of game-ready vegetation models, so you can create gorgeous landscapes like this.

I am stunned!

In so many ways this looks a lot better then crysis, just to use the regular benchmark for awesome graphics.

The angular shapes to the rocks does nothing to diminish the look of quality, infact in some cases it adds to it instead.

These pictures is proof of the awesomeness of Leadwerks engine's potential. The ramshackle storage facility looks very realistic, if not a bit too run down with repair work done by juniour graders or so it looks, but the quality of mesh and textures are superb and I love the vegetation!

Truly a testament to pure3D and Leadwerks!

Hand it over.

Let's be honest - nobody is going to believe the GDC footage was running in LE unless we see it for ourselves.

What's with the weird shadow from the rock on the bottom right picture? The three rocks nearest the '50' road sign - the one closest to the camera. The shadow looks borked.

Everybody believes this is the real footage, except for you. Why would Josh present fake footage at the GDC? He would scare of any to be investors. Also would his, as wel as the Leadwerks engine, reputation sink deeper then the Titanic.

This scene keeps amazing me. Good texturing and the right lighting settings are really important here.

Well, it was the bit where he mentions 'I got my hands on the GDC showcase scene' that made me wonder if he had seen it actually running in LE previously.

However, in complete honesty, I'd like to play with it myself.

Yeah in a prior post Josh wrote he had a video to show on GDC.

So actually he doesn't need to have the scene on his hands..

lol who say its MPH and not KPH

I suppose are KPH as Pure3d seem to be in Europe. (Germany if i don't wrong)

Yes I rendered the HD videos from the levels for Josh with a special recording script.

There are some more plans with the Demo. But for testing new code with a fully functional level instead of just testscenes has its advantages.

The sign means indeed 50 km/h. It's meant for the forest workers so they know how fast they can drive.

I'm really pumped by Michael offering his vegetation for sale and the coming veg system update.

What's been the performance increase using this scene? And how long does this take to load? It does look rather dense and lush.

One another comment, I don't know if it's just the visual language of video games or my personal tastes but real foliage in sunlight is almost radiant, bright greens, yet it looks much better when using darker tones.

It's Joshs show. So I wont tell here. But you will notice a clear before/after.

The scene doesn't take long to load. 4 to 5 seconds.

Worst loading times I had were a testmap with 13.000 mapmodels which took around 1,5 - 2 minutes.
