Watched this last night. Some good, common sense points made. Can't emphasize "start small" enough, as someone who failed to take that advice and paid for it.

  8. Some pretty cool CC-0 (free, no attribution required) models here http://3tdstudios.com/FreePacks.html. Haven't tested the models yet myself but the judgin from the renders it's pretty nice

The period was included at the end of his link. Just take it out and it'll work.

yeah mind the . formatting in the status updates tends to go pretty haywire

  9. Inheriting a class template makes for some messy code :(

Things tend to change when you try to charge for your game. This is fine for the contest though.

hence the "for free games" qualifier

  11. I don't understand half of it but it seems really cool http://www.gamedev.net/page/resources/_/technical/graphics-programming-and-theory/real-time-cloth-simulation-with-b-spline-surfaces-r3814 wonder if it can be easily transfered to leadwerks

    1. nick.ace

      nick.ace

I suppose you could do this somehow with physics and joints, and then use a B-Spline shader to smooth it out (as that would be the same idea in principle at least). But I'm sure this wouldn't be great for game dev to calculate a B-Spline each frame, although it would make a great tech demo!

  12. Automatic google translation of russian code comments is useless but very funny at times ^^

  13. Is this a bug or have barrels just gotten agression training?

Migth be it - it's the prefab barrel; I usually play "barrel snooker" when I need break from coding and since the last update they have been somewhat irradic

  15. Installing Ubuntu 14.04 on a usb stick and I'm ready to commit murder over the unity desktop! how do people live with this ****?

@Einlander : Linux Mint (cinnamon) suits me better, that's why I use it on all my computers ;). But unfortunatly Leadwerks is not supported on ubuntu derivatives :(

    3. Ma-Shell

      Ma-Shell

Well, you can simply install an other window-manager... I really love i3wm for its keyboard-optimized design. You don't have to touch the mouse and it is really intuitive, once you get a grip on it. After installing a window-manager, you can choose which one to use from the Ubuntu-login-screen.

My general rule is I never customize the OS. I'm not a fan of their new interface, but Ubuntu 14 has gotten very slick. The maximize animation makes me wish OSX had that.

Calm down fanboi, I'm making a light hearted jib at at large co-operation ****ting on their users.. just Like I did with a linux company ( gnome ) the other day...

    3. DudeAwesome

      DudeAwesome

its not a new low on support. they want to force/keep customers on the latest os version.

    4. DudeAwesome

      DudeAwesome

and probably the best decision they have done in the past

  16. When will Ubuntu 14.04 be the official platform - it's scheduled to release the 17th.

      Josh

Is the UEFI bootloader what has kept you away from 12.04?

    3. Guppy

      Guppy

No - that is mainly due to unity desktop

    4. Josh

      Josh

      I can understand that.

  17. GNOME foundation is broke, maybe they will start listening to their userbase again

    1. beo6

      beo6

It is always bad to see this in the OS Community. But i hope the KDE Foundation does better. never liked where gnome was heading.

    2. Thomas

      Thomas

It was only a matter of time and I, for one, approve this.

I hope they suffer as much as I did when first I tried to use Gnome 3.

As a Gnome-user since 1998 (Gnome Beta) it surely broke my heart to see this **** they call Gnome 3.

    3. panz3r

      panz3r

Gnome2 was great. With gnome3 they decided to **** on the users ....

  18. Fun linux fact of the day; ctrl+alt+shift+R start ( and stops ) a undocumented buildtin desktop recorder ( on mint cinnamon atleast )

Blender Auto Weight creation and Weight painting is just a big time saver.

    2. Guppy

      Guppy

Yep - trouble is when I add a pole to the IK constraint it either twistes the mesh while in resting position OR it makes the join bend the wrong way.

Gonna try with rigify instead and see if I've better luck.

    3. YouGroove

      YouGroove

Beware Rigify is not compatible with simple FBX bones anim export. Already tried and discussed in forums here.
