  1. Welcome dear reader to my first Blog entry. In the following you will get a first impression of what I am working on. So lets not lose any more time and get started! What is the Phodex Framework? The Phodex Framework is created with the intention to provide common systems and mechanics to be able to create cool first person and especially role playing games within the Leadwerks Game Engine. "Leadwerks Game Engine is the easiest way to make 3D games." and "It's everything you need to make games, all in one place." With the Phodex Framework it try to also follow the general idea of Leadwerks, accessibility, simplicity and power. What does the Phodex Framework provide? Ok now lets get more specific. Here just a few things the Framework consist of: Highly intelligent AI System based on Goal Oriented Action Planning (GOAP) Userfriendly design and focus on accessibility and simplicity High costumization for all systems Questcreation System Different behaviors and designs for nearly every system of the Framework First person player controller with all you need Full-Blown combat system for melee and rangeweapons "Character Set" which lets you costumize every NPC (Combat Style, Behavior, Attributes, Animations, ...) External tools like the Questcreator and Charactercreator to improve accessibility Many common systems, like dialogs, inventories, questlog, levelsystem and more There is much more planned and this list does, of course, not go into detail, but now you can at least imagine what my plan is. How far is the development? I am worked on this since about one year and five months now and I can finally say that the Phodex Framework is finished. I cut off some features and as you may have noticed the direction the framework has changed from beeing a jack of all trades towards a framework for a very specific task, creating FPS and RPG games. Finished in this manner, does not really mean the work is done, I still will improve many systems and will implement some new ones, but the Framework now generally consists of all it needs to get started. Ok enough talk, lets show some stuff. Thank you for reading so far this is your reward: Of course this is not the final product I imagine, its just some stuff I put together in some lazy afternoons , but I tought it would be unfair to remain you without any visual impressions . The models are from an assetpack I recently bought and as well are not final and are just a placeholder. Anyway I think the scene looks pretty atmospheric . About me: My name is Markus and I am the head of Phodex Games. I am very glad to be able to study "Digital Media", which includes many topics relevant for game development. Besides design and art I am also very interested in technical stuff and therefore studied "Electrical Engeneering" for a while, which I am very glad for as it helped me understanding many of the technical aspects of computers, coding and ultimately in games. This is my second gamedev related project and I really love what I am doing and are passionated to create something good. My aim is to provide the best possible product, I can achieve and to help people by providing games which make them feel good :). Conclusion: If you have any ideas, suggestions, or wishes of what you would like to see in the Framework, feel free to tell me in the comments. If you find any errors, feel free to tell me, as english is not my native language. I wish you a wonderful day and stay cool . Markus from Phodex
  2. Hello everyone! This is my very first blog ever and hopefully it's all readable! So, lemme introduce myself a bit I'm Dragonfreak and my real name is Dion, i'm still pretty new to this community. (joined late spring if i recall correctly) I study gamedevelopment, i'm in my last year (Due some school issues it took 1 year longer than intended) i already passed my exams thanks to this awesome engine! (I keep recommending it to anyone that ask for a good engine) Currently i'm in my 5th week of my final internship, as soon i'm done here i will have my diploma and will be an official game-developer Ofcourse i have been poking around here and there on the forums and i have joined last Summer Tournament with my exam entry; Realm of the Lamb. Now, to get to the point of why i wanted to make this blog: My winter tournament game! I have been struggling ever since i got noted about the tournament, to come up with an idea.. Unlike my last summer entry, i wanted to have an actual fitting theme with the tournament! So i would be looking at something with snow, winter, cold, hot chocolate, ect.. But i wanted to give it a bit of my own twist in it.. So i came up with Space! Boy, do i love space After brainstorming and bugging my wife and a friend, we came down to this little story: My friend spammed me with all kind of wintery stuff, he came to a point he said "Evil snowman", this was as first a bit of a joke of his random train of thoughts. But then he said "Seriously tho, i want a game with evil snowmen, i don't care how or when. I want one." so this is where the first "idea" came from that will be added to the puzzle later. When i asked my wife for some good ideas, she asked me "Why space? Why not penguins?" So i was like: Well.. Cus space! And why not both? And this is where the idea was born, my wife said: Cute little penguins in spaceships shooting snowballs GENIUS! Loving it! I added the idea of my friend; Against evil snowmen! I could already imagine it all! So, finally to the point of the actual game (Sorry it took a while haha) which has the following name: Spinguins - The Invasion of the Snowmen Space penguins! Who doesn't love em right? Fighting against some evil snowman? Bring it on! The full game idea is still in development, like what kind of mode it'll be and that kind of things.. But the main idea is there! You're a little penguin, shooting snowballs against evil snowmen in UFO's (thanks to another dear friend mentioning it today). I guess the story could evolve from the idea that the home planet of the spinguins are being attacked by these evil snowmen in UFO's and that you're going to be the saviour of your planet. So for what kind of theme do i want to go with the models & feeling of the game? Something serious? Something just plain stupid? I have been kinda brainstorming about this aswell but already quite fast i got the idea to make it a bit Cartoony-ish.This especially embraces the idea of my wife: Cute penguins in a cute compact spaceship. I think i'll finally round up this blog post haha, it got quite longer then i expected.. Like, way longer! I'll try to keep some updates on my progress of the game! Currently i have been mostly doing modeling work because as mentioned above; I'm currently still having internship atleast 4 days in the week, so i don't have all the time of the world in my hands right now. Tho, in the process of modeling these things i became more quicker and handy in doing so which resulted in better models & cutting the time it takes by atleast 50%! I'll end this post with a few "Sneak peek" screenshots of what i have currently. For anyone also interested; I have a trello page which i'll use to keep track of my progress and my current worked on piece of my game. https://trello.com/b/mT1jv1zi/spinguins-the-invasion-of-the-snowmen Thanks for reading this quite large post! You're awesome, here have a cookie Pictures: Quick note: Textures are not final at all, sometimes i just added some to have a better vision on how it's shaping out - How it all started - It gots some arms! - Gave it a face - And a little cute scarf to top it off (this is not the final result, i keep that hidden for when it gets released) There are 2 more pictures of the spaceship (More sketches, i didn't make more screenshots in the process as i was carried away by the moment) You can find these on the trello page if you're interested
  3. Hello everyone i am reaper2259 and i just bought leadwerks last night and so thought i would come and give my introduction. I am 21 from nsw australia and i have been a hobbyist in game development since i was like 12, i started out doing purely 3d art for fun and then eventually found my way into game development, i have used many engines such as unity and gamemaker i also know some languages(not greatly) such as python, c# and gml. I haven't released any games i more dabble and have fun, i was looking for a new engine after getting frustrated with unitys terrain tools and honestly just felt like something different and thats when i found leadwerks on sale on steam so decided to jump on it. Iv only opened leadwerks once so far which was last night to get a quick look before bed but today i plan to sit back and learn it as best i can and i am hopeful that i will be able to grasp lua script and be able to accomplish something with it, i look forward to being a part of this community and hopefully sometime in the coming months i can share something of my creations with you all.
  4. Hello all, just wanted to drop in and give my introduction, just got Leadwerks today, been using Unity for quite some time but I'm an artist not a programmer though I can read and modify code fairly well. From what I have seen this looks to be a bit of an easier jump for what I'm looking to do, adventure style RPG's 3rd person so I'm going to give it a shot. The forum seems to be well responded to so that is definitely a plus. Often one of the most difficult things is getting help. As far as programming I know LUA is easier, I threw my hands up trying to learn C# though I did my best and took a few classes. So hopefully Ill be able to produce something now. So I will be starting small, I like marble games so think Ill start there. Looking forward to getting to know the community!
