Werkspace 2.0

IPBForumSkins.com is designing the skin for "Werkspace 2.0". Our existing skin is the result of several different people's work. IPBForumSkins was able to do a few small fixes for me in the past and they gave the best results, so I decided to hand the whole design over to them. Their instructions are to make a clean, professional, Web 2.0-ish design for the site.

I will post updates in this thread and ask for your feedback, since I don't have an eye for design. The links below can be referred to as progress is made:

I like the bubbly look. ;) Like MSN Messenger.

Yep, that is the style nowadays. The new YouTube site design is actually a really good example of that style.

They stole all your menus... thief I tell ya.. B) Looks good so far. I can't believe you didn't hire my company. See how ya are! :)

You guys do IPB skins? The skinning system is pretty difficult, it's not just regular CSS.

The black bars kind of bother me. Here are a couple alternatives. What do you think?:

We can change anything, including the entire layout, but it has to be decided now.

Bubbly is the style nowadays? No, bubbly is "Web 2.0" and all the buzz words you may associate with it.

The web isn't glossy bubbles anymore, it evolved to be cleaner, flatter, and more content oriented.

Look at the redesigns over at Google - Gmail, YouTube, G+, even Google itself. Look at Vimeo, Twitter. Show me the bubbles.

I don't dislike the presented design, it's good, but if it's not modernized it won't last for as many years as you'd wish.

Let's define our terms. I think what Rick means by "bubbly" is this:

Not this:

Glossy it out, flat gray monochrome with a slight emboss is in. Do you agree with that?

How is it not modernized? I am open to criticism, but it needs to be specific.

Web2.0 is more a technical term - look at html5. If one is going to write a quote, one writes a quote and not a small headline in quotes. ;)

PS : iam out-of-business for quit some time now - but i believe its all about being "barrier-free" ... it can be better interpreted/translated.

The first two links you posted do pretty well describe the difference between current and new standarts in terms of layout ... everything used to be a treenode which might be going to be more open "at a glance".

Web 2.0 is a marketing term. HTML5 is a technical term.

@Josh: I guess it all falls within the radius of your rounded corner, heh? ;)

Replaced "Products" menu item with "Home" icon. I want the site to just focus on selling Leadwerks3D, and the word "Home" looks strange, so I used an icon.

Eliminated icons in header for sign in, create account, etc.

Yes, but our WP, IPB developer is pretty busy anyways, doing sites for an advertisement agency.. ;)

Its all good, just playing with ya anyways.

I like the bigger icon and buttons for "Web2.0" The small stuff is what everyone is getting away from.

like this http://whmcs.com

that's the style I like.

This inserts the section title into the top of the page, to break up the three horizontal bars. It's redandunt to have the word "Forum" on this page, but the forum thread title will appear on other pages in the same manner, so this is consistent:

Black bars over the boxes on the right side also would look better.

Just this big, black 'thing' over every category is not what i really going to like on the first view.

And maybe the bars a little brighter ;)
