Monster Mayhem

Monster trucks that is, not the big teeth, flesh eating scaled skin variety. This started as a thought exercise and turned into the start of vehicle AI. The truck has auto steering which will steer the truck to a designated point, as demonstrated in the opening of the video. Currently the truck has no brakes an a far too high torque acceleration, but it was more fun.

Eventually the nodes that are used for steer to points will become info nodes that will set things like braking distance and max speed amongst other things.

This was recorded realtime in the Leadwerks 2.5 editor with the trucks AI scripted in Lua.

I'm working with the vehicle class too, and I'm wondering how you prevent the monster trucks from flipping over when they make a tight corner (what settings etc.).

The A.I. looks promising so far. smile.png

Things topple over for a reason .. try moving the vehicles centre of mass lower.

I know they do that for a reason. And you have no clue how much time and effort I've put into the vehicle stuff. Lowering the centre of mass doesn't solve the problem fully.

But anyways, it's my problem and not yours, and I'll figure it out someday.

M'kay .. you asked what I did to "prevent the monster trucks from flipping over when they make a tight corner" .. and what I did was lower the vehicles centre of mass.

Guest Red Ocktober

just saw this... really neat...

funny watching the cars blindly "fight" for positioning...

this could conceivably be used to make a car choose (based on a set of target variables, say a street and number ) which node to head towards next...

@Red: Thanks and yes, conceivably, but what I have so far is what I did yesterday afternoon from an idea yesterday morning, also it was my first attempt at using vehicles and I still need to read up on all the LE vehicle "stuff". Its also very conceivable that the waypoints could be used in a node graph and pathfinding utilised. But the next step is to familiarise myself with LE's vehicle system and then approach the info node idea I mentioned.
