Alienhead Posted Tuesday at 03:13 PM Posted Tuesday at 03:13 PM Just spent about an hour and half on a map design, saved it as normal.. just came back and reloaded the editor and my map has nothing but a terrain on it. And also, only about 50% of the time does the UI text fields on components actually get changed. I've been trying to remove the starting "/' in Player Mesh Filename for 15 mins. it won't take the change. I change it and select a different object on the map, then come back to it and its at the original setting again. Objects I delete on the map field don't delete, they stay on the screen. Most of the time, when I'm able to save, I can reload the editor and they will be gone. Luckily. Quote Alienhead Components and Software
htharker1 Posted Tuesday at 06:40 PM Posted Tuesday at 06:40 PM I was wondering if I was going insane recently. When the editor crashed a few times just seemingly randomly, I could’ve swore I saved 5 minutes prior to the crash but usually around an hours worth of work is lost. I’m glad it’s not just me I was doubting my sanity! 1 Quote
Josh Posted Tuesday at 10:31 PM Posted Tuesday at 10:31 PM What steps should I take to produce the error? Quote My job is to make tools you love, with the features you want, and performance you can't live without.
Alienhead Posted Tuesday at 11:31 PM Author Posted Tuesday at 11:31 PM Sorry I have no steps that describes how this happens.. It either saves or it does not, I do not know how to provoke it. Quote Alienhead Components and Software
Josh Posted Wednesday at 08:55 PM Posted Wednesday at 08:55 PM I don't understand what the error is or what I should do to investigate this. Quote My job is to make tools you love, with the features you want, and performance you can't live without.
CJO Games Posted yesterday at 10:09 AM Posted yesterday at 10:09 AM I have been able to reproduce this error since the beginning on and off - its not a new problem; indeed, the same behaviour is present in Leadwerks 4 too. It is not something that requires specific steps to reproduce as reported by Alienhead - it either saves or not. I have found that the more complicated a scene gets the more likely it is to occur - this is also the case when a large number of cut/copy/paste operations are carried out. I use the standalone Lua version of Leadwerks 5 or Ultra Engine and the professional steam version of Leadwerks 4. 1 Quote
Josh Posted 22 hours ago Posted 22 hours ago 2 hours ago, CJO Games said: it either saves or not What does this mean? No file is saved? Quote My job is to make tools you love, with the features you want, and performance you can't live without.
CJO Games Posted 22 hours ago Posted 22 hours ago No, the file is saved. What it means is work done on a scene is only saved up to a point at which it seems to be lost - usually this is when the scene is as described above (complicated/large file IO operations etc.). Quote
Josh Posted 22 hours ago Posted 22 hours ago That doesn't make any sense. It sounds like a file is not saved. There are missing objects, or objects are in the wrong position? Quote My job is to make tools you love, with the features you want, and performance you can't live without.
CJO Games Posted 22 hours ago Posted 22 hours ago Yes missing objects or objects in the wrong position. As I say this goes back to Leadwerks 4 too. You are right to say it doesn't make sense - it doesn't, and yet, it still occurs. It isn't a problem with HDD either as I have tried different drives for projects. Quote
Josh Posted 22 hours ago Posted 22 hours ago Are you sure it isn't just an older version of the same scene file? It's not possible for the wrong position to be saved. Quote My job is to make tools you love, with the features you want, and performance you can't live without.
CJO Games Posted 22 hours ago Posted 22 hours ago Depends on which editor we are talking about - Leadwerks 4 has a auto backup system so the scene can be saved at different points depending on that can't it? Giving the appearance of things being in the wrong position etc... I think it is a case of the scene files being older versions but that doesn't explain why it happens. I'm not sure I understand why it occurs in Ultra/Leadwerks 5 - I haven't noticed .bck files being created when using it so can't really understand how a similar problem occurs with that... Quote
Josh Posted 21 hours ago Posted 21 hours ago Leadwerks 4 is not relevant to the conversation, and there is no code shared between the two editors. Quote My job is to make tools you love, with the features you want, and performance you can't live without.
Josh Posted 21 hours ago Posted 21 hours ago It seems like you are searching for some common cause and there isn't one. (Also I have never heard of this behavior until now.) Quote My job is to make tools you love, with the features you want, and performance you can't live without.
CJO Games Posted 21 hours ago Posted 21 hours ago Nah, not searching for anything at all - I am suggesting a possible cause - it's up to you if you wish to pursue it or otherwise. All I know is the behaviour suggested by others is reproducible and has been in the past (the reason I mentioned Leadwerks 4) and I have continued to see the behaviour in the new editor which is manifest in the ways discussed. I'm fairly certain I have raised a bug report on this topic in the past I'm not going to search for it though - I will leave it there as I can't see any benefit discussing(?) it further. Quote
Josh Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago I am going to close this because there is no way for me to investigate this. I have used the editor very heavily and have never seen any behavior like this. I think you guys might be running out of hard drive space, maybe your model file hierarchies or default limb orientations are changing, or somehow you are not saving the scene. Please let me knowi if any new information emerges, but there is not any way for me to proceed with the information I currently have. Quote My job is to make tools you love, with the features you want, and performance you can't live without.
Alienhead Posted 19 hours ago Author Posted 19 hours ago Well I can tell you for sure I'm not running out of an HDD space nor is my mesh geo/bone limits reaching a max. Without being able to bring this up at will I see no need to pursue it either, although less then 10 mins ago this event just happened to me again. I was working on a map.. I saved and closed .. went to lunch and came back.. loaded up and the passed 30 mins of map editing was not saved. Oh btw, I'm sitting at roughly 1.2tb free HD space. Josh Posted 19 hours ago Posted 19 hours ago Are there any errors displayed when these ghost maps are loaded? Is the time signature on the scene file correct? Have you modified model files, and maybe saved them with different hierarchies or limb orientations in the file? Is there any identifiable pattern on the objects that don't get saved? How they were created, whether they are a child of another object, etc? Are they model files, brushes, entities, or everything? Can you upload an example ghost map that has not been resaved since the problem started, without all the assets it uses, just the file itself? Alienhead Posted 18 hours ago Author Posted 18 hours ago I'll turn my backup software off and catch the file the next time it happens. To answer the above questions in order - -- No -- Will have to check -- Possibly, I'm leaning towards yes. -- Anything -- yes Keep in mind this does not happen all the time, as matter of fact I went 2 days before it happened this morning. 1 Quote Alienhead Components and Software
