making a ,pak file in windows 7

As far as i understand to make a pak file i make a .zip then rename it to .pak

I tryed this in windows 7 it did not work

Can someone tell me what i did wrong?

sory,

 

 

first compresed media files into a .zip

then renamed the.zip to the.pak

when i tryed to open shader.pak the file did not open.

when i tryed to open the.pak the file opened.

sound like you did not change the .zip to .pak

 

seem you may have like this name.pak.zip you may be better to open a cmd box and look at the file that way to see what name its got

then rename it

 

or i may be wrong lol

Are you trying to open the pak file? because you can not open a pak file directly. Only code can open stuff that is packed inside the pak file. you have to rename it back to .zip if you want to have a look inside.

You can open a .pak with both winzip and winrar I have my .pak's for LE associated with winrar so I can double click them and look inside.

hi,

the file name is the.pak

i have no ext programs that should be able to open them unless 7-zip can

and i want to make it so i cant see the files inside it.

 

 

i have not used comand prompt in a long time and forget how to re-name

a file in it if you can tell me the function

that would save me alot of time.

I don't use 7zip, but with winrar you can encrypt your data en set a password to it.

 

There is also a command in the wiki. But I never used that.

I think Windows 7 does not support filename extensions in Explorer, so you have to use a DOS window.

Windows is set by default to hide file extensions for known types..

- you have to go under folder options in explorer under view tab and uncheck hide extensions for known types.. then you can rename zip to pak

- in most apps you can just go file / open and select file type filter as any format (*.*) and then select a renamed file (same for saving)

- you can try to double click a .pak file and choose open with and associate it with winrar, 7z or what have you..

- in command prompt (start / run / "cmd") type in "ren file.zip file.pak" to rename your file ..

I renamed in 7-zip(basiclysame thing you said in your second sentence)

now it works
