AggrorJorn Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 The solution to this is to only allow approved members to add new articles and change mediawiki files. I you would set this up I would recommend assigning a few admin-moderators who are the only ones who have access to editing. Spam attacking in general is everywhere, even this forum has spam from online stores from time to time. Quote
bandrewk Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 Valve's developer wiki is powered by MediaWiki and I never saw any spam there. I think that everyone should be able to create an account and edit / create new articles, that's what makes a wiki, isn't it. Quote
AggrorJorn Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 yes, but the last time this was allowed, the entire wiki was destroyed by spam. We lost so much information. Quote
bandrewk Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 That's reasonable. I think we have two options here: Josh could either investigate how valve keeps their wiki spam free or only grant members with developer status write access to it (like you suggested). Quote
AggrorJorn Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 @Josh, We realize that this would cost you valuable time. If you set up the wiki and assign moderators we can help you with it. 2 Quote
