Emission Map Casting Light?

Two questions.

1) Can you attach a sprite / map to a light source to get more interesting light types? Like a sprite attached to a flashlight to get that old classic flashlight look:




2) Can an emissive map cast light / be used as a light source? 


Perhaps one can attach a point light onto an missive object, and going back to question 1, attach a sprite to the light so that the light casing would at least resemble something other than a sphere of light.

I'd say try it out in the editor. Attach a material that points to a an alpha map. 

I haven't tried it in a while (10 years old already pfff):

It only works with spotlights.
