Is there a nice and easy way to get more realistic landscapes in LE besides sculpting them yourself? I can't make very good landscapes and would be nice to just import some kind of gray scale image of an already made landscape.

L3DT is great for this, and the free version goes up to 2048x2048.

Michael Betke has also done a lot using GIS data and satellite images.

My job is to make tools you love, with the features you want, and performance you can't live without.

I don't know where to find good quality heightmaps (apart from GIS, DEM, .. data), I only know of tools that can make them (L3DT, World Machine2, GeoGen), but usually there's a learning curve and you have to invest some time for good results.

How about an editor object that allows you to change some parameters, click apply and it auto-generates some terrain for you, or just does some noise filters over your existing terrain? ( I'm doing this in c++ now, not finished but already quite usable, it think it could be ported to LUA easily, see here)
