Haydenmango Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 Noob question: What does the soften mipmaps option on textures actually do? Quote Check out my game Rogue Snowboarding- https://haydenmango.itch.io/roguesnowboarding
gamecreator Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 Not sure if you already saw this http://www.leadwerks.com/werkspace/page/documentation/_/user-guide/texture-editor-r9 Though I do wonder how it interacts with the sharpen filter http://www.leadwerks.com/werkspace/blog/41/entry-1214-leadwerks-gets-update-for-workflow-enhancements-new-features/ Do they counter each other or do different things? 1 Quote
Haydenmango Posted May 23, 2014 Author Posted May 23, 2014 oh geez I feel dumb now. Next time I'll search harder before posting noob questions. Thanks. I tried using sharpen with soften mipmaps and it doesn't seem like they counter each other but I still don't fully understand these features so I'm not sure what to look for. gamecreator Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 No worries. I'd love Josh's or someone else's input on how they interact. Quote
Admin Posted May 24, 2014 Posted May 24, 2014 The soften filter can be used to decrease repetitiveness of a texture at a distance. It blends the texture into the average color of all the pixels, as it gets further away. It's probably not that useful anymore. Quote
gamecreator Posted May 24, 2014 Posted May 24, 2014 Thanks. Curious why you don't think it's that useful any more. Because we have a lot of textures to use or shader effects? Quote
Josh Posted May 25, 2014 Posted May 25, 2014 It was mostly for use with terrain, but the terrain system we have now is a little lower-res in the distance anyway. 1 Quote My job is to make tools you love, with the features you want, and performance you can't live without.
